The 10 Best Engineering Schools For Energy & Power Sector

Power & Energy Needs Engineers

Source:CEWD Gaps In Workforce Report

What we want to do in this article is to point rising college students and the job seeking public toward the best places to get the engineering education needed to acquire these opportunities.

If you have not been following the news, energy and jobs are two of the hottest topics of the presidential election. Over the next

few months voters will be inundated with each candidate’s plan to create jobs; achieve energy independence and lower energy prices. Of course, we are not going to take sides in the battle for the White House but we are going to talk about the one element that the energy & power sectors need above all else- People.

The Engineering Job Dilemma

In a previous post “Keystone XL Pipeline: A Small Part of A Bigger Jobs Picture”, we discussed this central point about the energy and utilities industry:

“Over 50% of the engineer and technician workforce will have to be replaced due retirement and attrition by 2015.”

Even in this economy, energy and utility companies are struggling to find qualified applicants for their open positions. Why? Believe it or not, there are still not enough engineering graduates and experienced professionals to cover the attrition and growth of the energy & power sectors. New environmental regulations, cyber security standards, smart grid deployment and retirements are driving utilities and energy companies to aggressively recruit more talent.  My hope is that after reading this article and researching the job prospects  more people will enter these fields.
